Ductless reaches the rooms that ducts never did
Many older Tri-Cities houses were built without central air. Others have a garage conversion, a finished attic or an addition the existing furnace was never sized to serve. Running new ducts through finished walls and ceilings is expensive and disruptive, and adding a room to an existing duct system often leaves that room hotter or colder than the rest of the house.
A ductless mini split skips all of that. A compact outdoor heat pump connects by a thin line set to one or more indoor heads, each with its own control. That gives you cooling in summer, heat in winter and separate settings room by room. It also suits a shop, a bonus room, or the one bedroom that never matched the rest of the house.

A head has to sit where air can reach the whole room without blowing straight onto a bed or a desk. The tech looks at wall space, the distance to the outdoor unit and the electrical supply. The line set carries refrigerant and a condensate drain, so the run needs slope for drainage and a clean route through the wall, with a cover that keeps it tidy outside.
The line set connections are made carefully, pressure tested and pulled to a deep vacuum before refrigerant is released, because moisture or a poor joint in a small system causes trouble for years. The outdoor unit is mounted on a pad or bracket clear of snow drift and dust. The tech then checks each head, sets up the remote and shows you how it works. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit keep a ductless system quiet
Indoor heads have washable filters that catch dust, and in this dry, dusty region they need attention more often than the manual might suggest. Pull them every month or two in heavy use, rinse and dry them, and put them back. A clogged filter makes a head louder, weakens airflow and can let the coil ice over.
Outdoors, keep the unit clear of weeds, leaves and snow, and rinse dust off the coil gently. Have the head coils and condensate drain checked at a yearly tune-up, since a slow drain can drip inside the wall. Gurgling, a musty smell or a head that stops cooling are reasons to call A-One.
